The biggest reason I get for customers switching from a big company to a smaller, local, family owned business is the fact that the technician turnover is so frequent. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of techs who have worked for the big guys and stayed for the long haul, and their customers love them and they are willing to pay the price they charge to keep the continuity in service.
It’s when the customer starts to see changes that they start to worry.
The benefits of a smaller company that is family owned are many. One is the fact that you will usually get the same technician visit your home or business which is important in pest control. Why? Because the pest control technician needs to learn the home or business, the issues, the nooks and crannies, the hidden closets, the hot spots, all the intricacies that go along with servicing a home or business properly.
You also get the benefit of being serviced by someone who has skin in the game. What does that mean? Usually a smaller company has the owner, family members or technicians who have been with the company for a long time. They want to partner with their customer, they don’t want to treat them as just and account number, and most of all they want to do a great job so they don’t lose the customer. Losing a customer, whether it is a home or business, isn’t as painful to a large company as it is to a smaller company, so the smaller business goes the extra mile.
The other reason the smaller, local, family owned business is better is because often times the people who work at the company live in your community, shop and the same shops you do, go to the same church, etc. So they want to be good neighbors both in business and in their personal lives.
Lastly you are inviting the pest control technician into your home or business sometimes monthly and it is nice to know the same person is going to show up, know the house and know you and your family and pets, and actually care. You will be treated the same way they would want to be treated if they were spending money with you.
