Catching and getting rid of mice is a challenge, especially if they have reproduced and gotten comfortable in your home. Where we are located in Willow Grove, there is a lot of road work, as well as building construction. Lots of digging is going on, and this displaces mice and, dare I say, rats, and they run for shelter. Mice find warmth and food odors escaping from the entry points in your home, and in they come. Mice only need a small hole to enter. Think of a pencil, if you can fit a pencil in or under sometimes, our little friend the mouse can get in there too!

Why are mice so successful? Their reproduction cycle is quick and large. When a mouse has a baby, there can be up to 16 mice in that litter. Then, as soon as 4 to 6 weeks, the new mice are ready to reproduce. What does this mean? One pregnant mouse can become hundreds faster than we want them to!

We want to attack mice aggressively. I had a customer in Warminster, Pa, who was setting one snap trap a night to try to catch the “one mouse” he had bothering him in his home. When I arrived, I quickly determined that the mouse was multiple mice, and we set up a program that used many, many traps, baits, as well as sealing up some of the potential holes the mice might have gotten into originally.

The man above was also making the mistake of thinking mice only like cheese! When we come in to catch mice, we bring peanut butter or chocolate sunflower butter (depending on whether there is an allergy in the home.) We also use chocolate syrup, slim Jim’s, bacon grease, and others. You have to give them variety because they are just like you or me. They like variety in their diet.

If you are struggling with mice and have given up, and you’re looking to bring in a professional, just remember, Grove Pest Control is local, nearby, and ready to help.
