It doesn’t matter if you live in Huntingdon Valley or Warminster, mice are everywhere, and they succeed no matter what the environment is. I have customers who decided to call in pest control after trying and trying to get rid of the mice themselves.

I’m going to go through a couple of errors that the homeowner makes when trying to exterminate for mice.

First is they don’t use enough traps. I come out and they have 2 snap traps along the wall. When I ask where they are seeing them, and they say here there and everywhere. So step one is to buy lots of traps. You can find them in bulk on amazon or just visit your local hardware store and grab a bunch. The good old fashioned wooden snap traps are fine.

The other mistake they make with these wooden mouse snap traps is that they put large globs of peanut butter or other bait on the trigger. That’s a bug no no. Put just a smear on the trigger. Make the mouse work for his food. If there is too much that mouse may lick the bait and never get caught. Baits to use? Peanut butter, pieces of slim jims, chocolate syrup, bacon grease. Give the mice variety.

Next thing to consider is placement. If you see a mouse run across a wall, then put 4 to 6 traps along that wall. If he is running around the kitchen, then go to the basement under the kitchen and put traps out on the basement wall ledges below the kitchen. Put out a bunch of traps. Don’t skimp. You should have 20 plus traps or more in some instances throughout the home. Always use caution if you have pets or children, as a snapped paw or finger smarts for sure!
